The Three Powers

The three powers of each planet kept order. There were the Moons, who ruled the heavens. The Planets, who ruled the land; and the Priests, who ruled the underworld. The Moon Senshi and Planetary Senshi each had crystals, much like Sailor Moon's and Tuxedo Mask's. The Priests, like Helios, had a holy land, one for each planet. If any one of the three powers fell, the other two would soon go with it--each of the guardians' bodies slowly dying along with their planets.

The three powers are an interconnected trinity that centers around each planet in the solar system. They consist of:

The Planet
The center of the three powers, and the greatest among equals. The planetary body ties together the moons and the holy lands. It also represents all three powers in meetings between planets. Symbolically, the planet corresponds to the surface.

The Holy Land
The innermost of the three powers. The holy land represents the "spirit" of the three powers, particularly the planet. Its appearance reflects the idea of the planet and what it stands for, and so it often does not accurately reflect the physical appearance of the planet it represents. Symbolically, the holy land corresponds to the underworld.

The Moons
The outer of the three powers. The moons form a first line of defense for the planet, keeping out invaders and serving as a gateway for foreigners. Because they are somewhat isolated from the other two aspects, the Moons are often fiercely independent and see themselves more as territories or colonies of their parent planet. This is especially true of the outer planets, who literally have dozens of Moons, many with their own ideas of how to run each of their individual kingdoms. For the most part, the planets know better than to interfere with Moon's governing except when necessary, and the Moons repay the favor by obeying the few commands issued from a planet. Symbolically, the Moons correspond to the heavens.

The three powers exist in complete co-dependency; if any one of them renounces their allegiance to the other two or falls victim to Chaos, it will begin the curse of sickening. This curse manifests itself as a disease which begins on the holy land, where the sacred plant will turn black and begin to wilt. Then it will spread to the priest, who will fall il. The sacred plant will become visible in their chest, and then they will slowly loose their humanity as they begin to take on the features of their beast form.

Once the priest is weakened into their beast form, the sickening will pass to the Planetary Senshi and then to the Moon Senshi in turn. The process is painful and slow, but has the advantage of leaving the three powers plenty of time to re-ally or heal their fallen ally before it's too late.
