"Mayumi never said that she wanted to be famous...But it was no use thinking about it. She was here now, and she had to make the best of things."

Mayumi Hatsuhara seems to go through life with uncanny charm. She is loved by her friends, she is the apple of her father's eye, she is beloved by millions as a famous idol--one who virtually created the modern popularity of her perky, schoolgirlish brand of pop-music. She is always perfectly groomed, punctual, and polite. She walks with grace, and her silver hair and fire-red eyes are the two features that seal her reputation as an exotic and unparalleled beauty.
But Mayumi hates her carefully groomed facade. Although she loved singing as a child, any interest in her career has been drained out of her by her father's demands on her to make a successful career out of her talent. Her schedule leaves virtually no time for hobbies or fun, and is often deeply stressful.
Moreover, Mayumi's real personality is hardly one of poise and etiquette. Mayumi would rather be goofing off--eating snacks and talking about cute boys--than working hard. Her wishes are the simple wishes of an ordinary high school girl; have a loyal, trustworthy friend and a loving, understanding boyfriend. Mayumi resents that her childhood has been denied her, but she is too afraid of incuring her father's wrath and punishment--and the disapproval of her fans and peers--to take a stand.
For someone so absorbed in their personal career, senshi activities are hardly a priority to Mayumi; she entirely ignores the conflict against Sailor Pinkmoon, and even when a mysterious new enemy appears, Mayumi only helps out when she happens to be in the neighborhood. Still, her senshi persona represents an escape from her normally false mask, and for a warrior she often acts strangely bubbly and girlish, seeing her fuku as an opportunity to act more in keeping with her natural personality.
It's only once she meets the enigmatic Mauros that Mayumi questions her unwavering obedience to her father, her manager, and her facade. Mauros' innocence and earnestness are a refreshing change from the shallow people that surround her at school and in the entertainment business, and Mayumi finds herself drawn to this mysterious young man...
